Did you know that being able to tell what direction a sound is coming from depends on both ears working together? That’s right. Our ears combine the information coming from both sides in order to locate where a sound is coming from. This ability is compromised when one ear isn’t hearing at the same level as the other. This can also make it harder for people to understand speech when there is background noise, because it becomes difficult to tell where the speakers voice is coming from in relation to the noise.

This is why, when people ask if they need one hearing aid or two, we always recommend two. Unless there is a contraindication, two hearing aids are better than one.
