With the longer days of summer upon us we are all excited to get out there and enjoy the warm weather. Living in Nova Scotia, we know with warmer weather comes humidity. And humidity can be tough on hearing aids. So here is a guide to help “moisture proof” your hearing aids and keep them in good working order so that you can enjoy all summer has to offer.

First, make sure you are bringing your hearing aids in for regular service. Our hearing health care professionals will clean and check them while inspecting for any signs of moisture or corrosion. That way, action can be taken early, such as cleaning or replacing corroded parts and putting the hearing aids through our dehumidifier.

Second, get yourself a hearing aid dryer. For battery operated hearing aids, this is a small container with desiccant beads that help keep the hearing aids dry. If you have rechargeable hearing aids, many brands have dessicant pucks available that can be placed in the charger with the hearing aids. Just make sure to close the lid. Check with our professionals to see what is available for your brand of hearing aids.

Finally, make sure not to get your hearing aids wet. Take your hearing aids out and place them in a dedicated case before you jump in the water. Also avoid wearing them during intense exercise that produces a lot of sweat as this can damage them over time.

That’s it! Follow these steps to get the most out of your hearing aids over the summer months. For questions, please feel free to contact us:
