There are many causes of hearing loss. Some are obvious, such as exposure to loud noise. Others are not as well known. Take diabetes for example. In 2008, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducted a study that revealed hearing loss is twice as common in people with diabetes.

They believe that hearing loss in diabetics is related to poor blood circulation. The inner ear is highly vascularized with tiny blood vessels. As such, this area is very sensitive to any disruption in blood flow.

With this in mind, if you are diabetic, it is a good idea to have your hearing screened on an annual basis to monitor any changes.
