So what is hyperacusis anyway?


Hyperacusis is a hearing disorder where the person is hypersensitive to certain sounds. Hyperacusis is a hearing disorder where the person is hypersensitive to certain sounds. A person with hyperacusis has an abnormal tolerance for ordinary sounds.


Therefore, a person with hyperacusis may find that they cannot tolerate sounds in their everyday life that are not bothersome to other people. Thus, it can interfere with the individual’s day-to-day functioning.


Some symptoms of hyperacusis include the feeling that your voice is too loud or distorted, the feeling that normal sounds are too loud or distorted, but quiet sounds are comfortable, hypersensitivity to low-intensity noise like the hum of the refrigerator, and pain or discomfort from unexpected loud noises.
