Keep your hearing aids working at their best during the humid summer months

Summer in Nova Scotia is always something to look forward to. From warm weather, to beach days, bbqs, and gathering with friends and family, summer is full of exciting activities.   However, living in Nova Scotia, we know with warmer weather comes humidity. And humidity can be tough on hearing aids. So here is a guide to help protect your hearing aids and keep them working at their best so that you can enjoy all summer has to offer. Hearing aid technology has come a long way over the last few years to help make them more water resistant than in the past. However, like any piece of technology moisture getting into the electronics of hearing aids can have a big impact on their ability to function.  You can protect your hearing aids from moisture damage this summer with quick and easy steps that can be incorporated into your daily routine.

  1. Bring your hearing aids in for regular service. Our team will clean and check them while inspecting for signs of moisture damage. That way, action can be taken early, to get them back to peak functioning.

  2. Use a hearing aid dryer, these are helpful all year long but especially crucial during the summer. For battery operated hearing aids, this is a small container with desiccant beads that help keep the hearing aids dry. For rechargeable hearing aids, there are desiccant pucks available that can be placed in the charger with the hearing aids to help remove moisture from your hearing aids. Check with our team to see what is available for your hearing aids.

  3. Don’t get your hearing aids wet. It can be easy to forget, but it’s important to take your hearing aids out and place them in a dedicated case before you jump in the water.

  4. Avoid wearing hearing aids during intense exercise that produces a lot of sweat. Over time sweat can cause damage to the electronics in hearing aids. If you can’t avoid wearing them during exercise make sure to wipe away visible moisture afterwards and use a hearing aid dryer to remove moisture you can’t see.

The summer months bring many exciting things to our province. However, the summer humidity poses a risk to hearing aids. Preventing moisture damage by wiping away visible moisture, using a hearing aid dryer, and keeping them somewhere safe during activities that may get them wet is crucial during the summer to keep your hearing aids working at their best so you don’t miss a beat this summer. Worried your hearing aids may have moisture damage? Call or book online so one of our experts can help you get back to your best hearing possible. • Always great services and speed of the return of ear devices that I have a tendency to unintentionally break or whenever the devices aren't quite working right.
