October is hearing protection awareness month. By now most of us are aware that we should protect our hearing when we are working around loud noise, such as with careers in construction or the Military. But, work isn't the only place we can be exposed to damaging noise. We should also be thinking about hearing protection during loud leisure activities and working around the home.

Noise from concerts can reach damaging levels quickly and leave us with permanent hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Hearing protection should be used at concerts, sporting events, and activities where there is a risk of loud noise such as hunting, motor biking, and snowmobiling. Other sources of noise we should be aware of include common household items such as blenders, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and power tools.
